Todays trend is: Cameos

You may have noticed the plethora of cameos in last week's Trendwatch Tuesday: Vintage Halloween.  In fact, there were so many that the trend last would could have been cameos instead of Vintage Halloween.  Cameos have been popping up all over the crafty-net, and not just for Halloween. The papercrafting world certainly is not one to ignore a trend.

I couple of years ago, I made a tutorial on how to make a nice clean silhouette (aka cameo) with your digital die-cut machine.  I've re-posted that tutorial below, so be sure to scroll down and take a look.  Maybe you'll want to make some of your own!

Some manufacturers are producing actual cameos for your papercrafting pleasures, some are using the motif on paper or stickers.

From We R Memory Keepers, here are a lovely set of cameos from the Tres Elegant line.  Very very pretty!

Websters Pages has some gorgeous silhouette designs.  Very pretty and very detailed.  They have quite a few Christmas cameos, too.

The Girls' Paperie also has some pretty cameos in traditional and floral styles.  These are from their Vintage Whimsy line.
For papers, here's one of my favorites from Bo Bunny.  I know you're saying, "Hey it's missing the cameo, Jan!"  What I like about it is that you can add your own!
Want some more great frames to add your own cameos to?  How about these from Teresa Collins' Notations collection? Wait, I think this might be my favorite.
Also from Teresa Collins, a lovely cameo paper from the Posh Collection.  I think this paper is unique because the silhouettes themselves have a more 1950's style to them rather than a Victorian style.  I like it!
Here's another great cameo paper.  This time from Hambly Screen Prints.  Their cameo paper comes in four awesome colors: Black on Kraft Textured Paper, Antique White on Vellum, and either Antique Pink or Antique Teal Blue, both on White Gold Metallic Paper.  Ok, I lied this is absolutely my favorite.

Can't get enough of cameos?  Be sure to check out all the Halloween Cameos I found for last weeks Trendwatch: Vintage Halloween article.  You won't be sorry.  Oh, and be sure to take a peek at the tutorial below for how to use your digital die-cutter to make your very own custom cameos!

Re-Post from 6.24.08 - Vintage Girls

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Today was one of my favorite days... Mommy Play Date Day! Two of my friends and their kids come over and we just work on whatever projects we've got going on. Sometimes we don't get much done but it's really fun to just hang out with some adults for a while! And the kids just love to play together! Today I've been working on some silhouettes of the girls.

I started with these two pictures I took of the girls:

I manipulated the photos in Photoshop a little bit to make the outline nice and clean and then I traced them in Illustrator. After cleaning up the tracing line a ton, I stylized their hair a bit and their shoulder profiles. I cut the out on my Klic-N-Kut and take a look:

I love how they turned out! Now I just have to find some frames to put them in and find a good place to hang them!

Here's a Parenting/Hailey story for you. Yesterday, Hailey came into the kitchen while I was making lunch and was very upset. She kept pointing to her throat and then inside her mouth. At first I didn't understand what she was trying to say, but then once I realized that there might be something wrong, I went into full Mommy mode. I got down on the floor with her and was trying to get her to tell me if she had swallowed something since she's always putting things in her mouth and chewing on them. I had visions of safety pins, magnets, coins, who knows what! She opened her mouth really wide and I peered inside to try to see what if anything is in there. Suddenly, she hiccuped really hard. OH! I nearly cried with relief and then laughed really hard. The hiccups! That was all I was panicking over? Phew! I'm glad it was nothing serious and now I have a funny story to tell her when she gets older. She was so upset about having the hiccups and after lunch when she realized they were gone she did a happy little dance. It was so cute!

Everyone have a happy day!

Ready for the tutorial?  Here it is!  This tutorial uses my Silhouettes Busts and Hair cutting design to stylize the hair and body.  You can stylize the hair and body yourself.  My design just speeds up the process a bit!  After all, you do your kids hair every day, right?  With this method, their real hair can be a wild as they want, and you can make it look pretty with no screaming, yelling, hiding in the bathtub, etc.

Just click on the image below to open it larger.

Trendwatch Tuesday: Vintage Halloween

Can you believe it's October already?  What in the world happened to September?  It's like someone stole a couple of weeks from me.  I guess that's what happens when you are ridiculously busy all day long.

My typical day starts about 5:30 AM.  That's when I snooze my alarm twice.  Ha ha!  Then I get the girls up around 6:00 AM and ready for school.  The bus comes at 6:45 AM.  I think that's pretty darn early.  Then I have some nice quiet time to eat breakfast, read scriptures, generally ponder life.  Sometime during that time I can usually coax the dog out of his kennel.  He's like a teenager, doesn't want to get up.  Then I usually spend the morning here on the computer. Creating, blogging, re-working my old designs to go up in the new store.  At some point, I realize that I've been sitting for far too long and I painfully get up out of my chair and go do something else.  It usually involves getting a Diet Coke and a snack.  Once in a while I throw in some housework unless I can avoid it.  Today I'm attempting to finish the laundry I started on Friday.  Sad!  Might make salsa later - with actually ingredients from my garden.  Glad!  The girls get off the bus around 2:30.  We spend the afternoon doing homework.  I usually have 2 to 4 piano students in the afternoon, as well.  Did you know I teach piano?  Now you do!  Then I frantically try to figure out what to make for dinner at about 5:00 PM.

Hmm... actually sounds quite boring.  Are you still awake?  Well, time to wake up, Chickies, it's Trendwatch Tuesday time!

Today's trend is... Vintage Halloween

Vintage is everywhere, as it has been for a while.  I guess not everywhere, but it seems like it.  We all want to turn back to a simpler time, don't we?  Although, what we'd do without all our electronic gadgets, I don't know.  Seems like we really just want to {look} back to a simpler time, not actually live it.

To start us off, how about some vintage inspired decorating ideas from the HGTV Designs Happens blog.  Do you see those cameos?  I feel another trend coming on!  Love the black and white color scheme here.

Check out this free Vintage Halloween printable I found on one of my new favorite websites, The Graphics Fairy.

Here's another free printable from Coco & Bella.  I spy an antique label!

I've also spotted a few really gorgeous Halloween paper crafting lines that feature vintage inspired patterns.  Here are my favorites!

I know I mentioned the Apothecary collection from Echo Park papers last week.  How can you not like this line?  Plus they are double-sided.  Double-sided is my favorite!

Another favorite collection?  Phantom by Pink Paislee.  Including more double-sided glory!  Oh look!  Cameos!
Phantom - Haunted 00553
Phantom - Apparition 00554
Phantom - Enchantress 00556
Phantom - Mystic 00557

Next up... Teresa Collins' Haunted Hallows Collection. There are lots of goodies in this line. Glitter paper, trims, rhinestones, oh my!  These are also double sided although not shown here.  More cameos... hmmm...

Last on my list of vintagy Halloween scrapbook?  It's Fancy Pants Designs Oct 31st collection. Also double-sided.  I guess it's everyone's favorite, now! I like the non-traditional color additions of lavender and turquoise to this collection. Tons of coordinating add-ons, too.

Okay, I'm totally inspired now. Gotta start decorating my house for Halloween!
